What to Wear
For fAMILY PHOTos
on Oahu
Keep it light, breathable, and beachy. Definitely wear something you FEEL good in — it will translate through your photos. If you want to keep it clean, go with soft neutrals, flowy dresses, and clothes you can move in. I personally LOVE a pop of color — nothing looks as dreamy as a red dress floating in the ocean! I like the colors you’d find in the flowers around Oahu; they look beautiful against any backdrop — whether it’s the ocean, the dramatic sea cliffs, the lush jungle, or the epic Ko‘olau Mountains.
Try not to have patterns that fight each other — if one person wears a pattern (say, Mom’s dress or Dad’s shirt), then the others can wear solid colors that complement it. Skip the logos and neon.
Check out Pinterest for beach outfit inspo! And feel free to bring a change of clothes (just know you’ll likely be changing “Hawaii style” — under a towel!).

What’s the best time for photos?
Sunrise is our favorite. Emptier beaches, soft lighting, beautiful sunrise, less traffic and then you have your WHOLE day ahead of you afterward. It checks so many boxes. However, if you're after that vibrant, tropical feel in your photos, you likely will want to choose mid-morning when the sun is up a little higher. As the closer the sun is to the horizon, the more washed out the ocean tends to be, but you also have softer flattering lighting. The Sunset spots on the island tend to get pretty packed, Golden Hour is the hour just before sunset which gives you beautiful golden light leading up the sunset. We’ll help you choose the right time based on your fam’s energy + light.
Our biggest recommendation is to choose a WEEK DAY. The beaches will be much emptier and this will allow us to get even more creative!
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
Oh, we expect chaos — and we love it. We’ve photographed every age, every mood, every meltdown (trust us), and we always find the magic in the in-between moments. We’re parents too — to three wild and wonderful boys — so not only do we speak fluent toddler and teenager, but we also get what it’s like parenting neurodivergent kids. Our oldest is autistic, our middle guy is ADHD, and we know all about chasing those dopamine hits (lol). Whether your kiddos are shy, silly, wild, or just so over it — we’ve got you. You can relax, and we’ll work our magic.
Can we include grandparents / cousins / dogs?Yes, yes, and YES. We include up to 5 participants in your session, and you’re absolutely welcome to include more — it’s just $25 per additional person. Just let us know who’s coming and we’ll customize your session.
What if it rains?
Hawaii weather shifts quickly — so we rarely watch the weather in advance. Plus a little rain can make your session extra magical, I mean a rainbow is ALWAYS an incredibly welcome addition. If there's heavy rain, it will be apparent by the cloud coverage over the island, and in that case we can come up with a backup plan — moving the shoot if we need to! Otherwise, we can usually find a dry backup spot!
What should we bring?
Yes,
You really don’t need much — and the lighter you pack, the more photos we'll get as the more weighed down we are the longer it takes for us to move around the beach. But if you want to come extra prepared, feel free to bring:

My entire family had a Waikiki vacation planned to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday. There were 11 of us ranging from ages 3-70.
